ROXBURY WINS BIG AGAINST ARTHUR L. JOHNSON

The Gaels were able to dominate the game against Arthur L. Johnson and come away with the victory 11 to 3.  The scoring began with D'Agostino feeding Cummings to start the scoring drive.  The Gaels were able to keep the ball on the offensive side of the field as the defenders contained their players and put a lot of pressure on Johnson's attack line.  Canning shut his player down and Kitchin forced a turnover that led to a drive to the net by D'Agostino feeding Keown for the score.  Kyle Shann had some great saves in goal and was able to clear the ball well.  D'Agostino complimented his two assists by taking an unassisted drive to the net to slip it in.  Milde connected with Cummings for the next score and then Keown won the face off and was able to pass it to Cummings to give him a hat trick.  The Gaels put a lot of pressure on the goalie by taking multiple shots and finally scoring with a Meehan to Kelly combination.  Cummings continued his scoring by placing the ball in an open net followed by a Milde drive down the field with a pass off to Cummings to give him his fifth goal on the day.  Crowley put pressure on his attackman to force a turnover and Peterson also played well defensively.  D'Agostino scored next on a feed from Keown and Kelly connected to Kitchin where he was able to place the ball in the net as he came from behind and laid the ball in from the crease.  The final scoring came from Kitchin on an unassisted goal.  Buck saw some field time and put in a great defensive effort. Rufino was able to see some time in goal and was credited with a few saves.  Maccione had a great drive down field where he took a yard sale hit but was able to recover quickly and put in an aggressive performance.  Meeth, Richman and Maccione worked the ball around well and controlled the game as the Gaels limited the scoring at 11 to 3.

NO JV TEAM FOR ARTHUR L. JOHNSON

ROXBURY UNABLE TO PULL OUT A WIN AGAINST RANDOLPH
The Gaels were able to win the first half but they could not hold off the drive from the Rams as they were outscored eight to one in the second half.  Kelly began the first half effort by winning the opening face off.  The first score came from Shann's clearing pass to Milde who went in for the goal. Shann also made some great saves including a shot directly to the face.  Cancelliere forced a turnover as he knocked the ball free from the Randolph player and brought it down field.  Skewes received a great feed from Kelly in front of the net to score.  Ollie came up with many ground balls and helped keep the ball on the offensive side of the field.  D'Agostino had an unassisted drive to the net to give the Gaels three points and RJ Canning was credited with a score as he intercepted a Randolph clear and drove to the net for an unassisted goal.  Shann had a great save at the buzzer and the first quarter put Roxbury up 4 to 2. D'Agostino weaved in and out of the defenders to find the back of the net to put Roxbury up five to four by the end of the first half.  Ollie and Canceliere played well defensively and both were credited with stripping the ball and forcing a turnover.  The only  scoring in the second half came from the one, two, three feed by Kitchin to Dag to Slinger for the goal.  The Randolph players put pressure on the attack line and Skewes was getting some guidance from his father as the Randolph player was abusing him.  The crowds were out in full force to watch the night game and they were very vocal in their support.  The final score was 12 to 6 as the Rams once again won the RHS trophy.

JV PLAYS HARD AGAINST RANDOLPH
The Gaels came up short in their game against Randolph 6 to 3 but they played a hard fought game.  The scoring was led by Oates and he received a pass from Rozi to find the net.  Kyle Smith connected with Meeth to score followed by a play from Rozi and Shann to complete the scoring for the Gaels.  The defensive effort was led by Caltagirone, Grenot and Buck and the goal was shared by Torlucci and Murphy.  O'Donnell played the field well as he forced three interceptions.  The Gaels came alive in the forth quarter and played with a passion.  Unfortunately, they were not able to come away with a win.

RIDGE OUTPLAYS ROXBURY 13 TO 2
For the seniors it was a hard loss as they wanted to beat Rossi's team since he was the head coach when they were freshman and left just before the season started. They were not able to get their wish as the Gaels couldn't put together an offensive game and they lost  13 to 2.  Perillo played well defensively by stripping the ball from a Ridge player and the lone score in the first half came from D'Agostino's feed to Skewes for the goal.  The score was 7 to 1 at halftime.  D'Agostino scored the only goal of the second half with an assist from Slinger.  Maureen Milde called the stick penalty by Ridge when she noted that Sean was all over his player and the ball never left his stick.  The stick was considered illegal and they served a penalty but Roxbury was unable to convert the penalty into a point.

ROXBURY JV HAS A CLOSE GAME AGAINST RIDGE
The JV squad lost a close game against Ridge with a final score of 10 to 9.  Penalties cost the team as the Gaels played much of the game man down which accounted for most of  Ridge's scoring.  Murphy put in a strong effort in goal and Caltagirone, Bartholomew, Eichvalds and Buck assisted with the effort.  The scoring was led by Conwell as he started the drive with two unassisted goals.  Rozi connected with Inge to put the Gaels at three.  Conwell assisted to Rozi times two for the next two goals followed by an unassisted goal from Rozi to give him a hat trick. The attack line controlled the ball well from the stick skills of Conwell, Rozi, Shann and Meeth. Johnny Meeth scored the seventh goal for the Gaels  and Nick O'Donnell fed Conwell to give him a hat trick as well.  Maccione completed the scoring on the day but it proved to be one goal short of the victory.

ROXBURY JV PLAYS MENDHAM
The JV team played a hard game against Mendham after sitting through a double overtime loss on the varsity level.  Torlucci and Murphy shared the goalie position and Caltagirone played well on defense to give them support.  It was a physical game with both teams playing with lots of emotion.  The scoring for the Gaels began with a goal by Meeth off of a feed from Cunneen.  Mike Inge had a beautiful interception and was able to pass it to Meehan who placed the ball in the net.  Meeth had an unassisted drive to the net for the goal  to complete the scoring for the first half. The game was tied at 3 to 3.  The second half proved to be Mendham's as they outscored the Gaels 4 to 1.  The lone goal for Roxbury came from Shann's feed to Meeth to give him a hat trick.  The Gaels didn't go down without a fight as they had many shots on goal.

MENDHAM COMES OUT WITH THE WIN IN DOUBLE OVERTIME IN THE VARSITY MATCH-UP
It was the game of all games as the Gaels completed their season with a record of 6 and 13 with a heartbreaking loss in double overtime.  Everyone played their heart out as the final game of the season was played on home field with a big crowd. Grenot put some outstanding pressure on his player and on more than one occasion stripped the ball from the offensive player with one turnover seeing him drive down field to take a shot on goal.  Crowley was all over his man and had some great hits to pressure the Mendham offense.  Cope led the scoring for the Gaels as he scored two unassisted goals.  Meehan was able to connect with the net on a man-up play as the Gaels controlled the ball on the pass around and he scored on the feed from Keown and then proceeded to get leveled by a Mendham player. Perillo was all over the field and he made his presence known as he held the Mendham attack line. Halftime saw the teams even at 3 to 3.  The second half saw lots of shots on goal but the Mendham goalie put in a strong game as he made 13 saves on the day.  Skewes was able to score off of a feed from Cummings when the clearing play from Mendham broke down.  Cancelliere pressured the Mendham players and was able to come away with many of the face offs from the sidelines.  He also had a beautiful drive down the field with long stick and took a shot on goal.  Keown, Kelly and Milde shared the face off position and all put in a strong effort.  Slinger scored the next two goals as he rallied the team to stage a comeback.  His first goal was off of a feed from Skewes and the next was off of an assist from Keown.  D'Agostino had the tying goal as he did what he did all season and drove to the net.  The first five minute overtime was scoreless despite some great plays and in the second OT Mendham was able to win a ground ball in front of the net to pass it in for a goal to give Mendham the win.

SENIORS
This was the final game of the season and it is fitting that we honor the seniors who dedicated themselves to the team.

Mike Cancelliere has played lacrosse for all four years in high school along with football and wrestling.  He has shown himself to be an outstanding threat defensively and plays with 100% effort in all he does. We congratulate Mike as he  went to states with wrestling.   He will be attending Bryant University in the fall.
RJ (Robert John) Canning has been a defender for four years with the Roxbury High School program.  Despite an injury during the season he continued to play and help out the defensive line. RJ also plays football for the Gaels. He will be attending Rowen come September.
Mike Crowley has been bothering the offensive line on varsity for four years.  He has put in a strong defensive effort as he contains his players like no other.  He is a two year captain for the lacrosse program and he also plays basketball for Roxbury.  Mike plans on attending RIT.
Andrew D'Agostino is the newcomer of the senior class as he picked up a stick freshman year.  He played middie until half way through his junior year where he was moved to attack and attack he did.  He had the drive to the goal that the team needed.  He was one of the tri-captains. He will be going to Kings College in the fall.
Doug Kitchin has been playing lacrosse for Roxbury since third grade as an attackman.   Halfway through his senior year he was moved to middie.  He was a varsity player for three of his four years at the high school.  Doug also plays soccer and sails competitively.  He will be attending James Madison University in the fall.
Greg Slinger is also one of the captains of the 2005 lacrosse team.  Greg has played the attack position for most of his high school career although he was moved to the middie position for the last few games of the season.  He will be attending CCM in September.

We wish the seniors all the best as they begin a new journey.  They are an outstanding group of young men and we know that they will do great things with their lives.
Congratulations!

MORRIS COUNTY TOURNAMENT
ROXBURY TAKES A LOSS FROM WEST MORRIS
The Gaels came out strong in the first quarter to play West Morris even two to two but a 6 to 0 drive in the second proved to be the fatal blow as the Wolfpack beat the Gaels 12 to 3.  After a close regular season game earlier in the season the Gaels couldn't put an offense together to match the drive of the West Morris players.  Sean Milde started the scoring on the first play of the game as he drove to the net on the face off win to score.  He then put on a spin move to shake his defender and send the ball into the net.  Skewes was credited with the only other score on the day for the Gaels with a feed from Slinger.  The Gaels were credited with 7 shots on goal while Kyle Shann was kept busy with 12 great saves.

D'Agostino, Keown, Cope and Kitchin each had two goals and one assist in the game.  Kyle Shann had some great saves and Immaculata's goalie denied many shots taken by the Gaels.

JV WAGED A STRONG GAME AGAINST IMMACULATA
The JV seeked revenge against the varsity loss and they did it in style.  When the battle was complete the Gaels won 11 to 0.  Murphy and Rufino shared the shutout with Murphy playing the first half and Rufino the second.  Roxbury won all of the face offs and commanded the offense.  The scoring began with Shann feeding Cummings followed by Blinn connecting with Cunneen.  Chuck Cummings was a man on a mission as he scored the next four goals.  One of the scores came from a beautiful passing sequence of Shann to Blinn to Cummings.  Shears was next to score followed by Cummings feed to Shann to put Roxbury up by 8.  Shann earned the next two goals to give him a hat trick on the day and Cummings wasn't done as he put one more into the net.  The offense was on fire and the middie lines played a strong game with lots of good checks to force the turnovers.  Defense was led by the strength of Eichvalds, Caltagirone and Bartholomew.

Madison  15   Roxbury  4

MADISON BEATS ROXBURY'S VARSITY TEAM
Kyle Shann had an outstanding game as he was bombarded with shots in the goal position but the Gaels were unable to compete against the speed of the Madison players.  Shann was credited with 13 saves and some of them were at point blank range.  Ollie Starnes played well defensively as he denied Madison a goal in the first quarter and put lots of pressure on the opposition.  The scoring for the Gaels began with a beautiful feed from Keown to Slinger to keep the game close in the first quarter 3 to 1.  Madison scored a goal in the second that was allowed but the player had to serve a stick penalty.  Conwell was tripped up by Madison but was able to connect with D'Agostino on his way down to score.  Some good defensive plays saw Simon stripped the ball recover it and Kitchin  stole  the ball at midfield as the Madison player held the stick back too far.  The final scoring for the Gaels occurred in the fourth as both Cope and Keown put together individual drives to the net.

West Morris 7   Roxbury 5

GAELS PLAY A STRONG GAME AGAINST WEST MORRIS

The Gaels were able to play evenly with West Morris but in the end they
were outscored 7 to 5.
Kyle Shann put in an outstanding effort in the goal and made some spectacular plays to keep Roxbury in the game.  Ollie played strong defensively and forced many turnovers to help the cause. His feet would start moving and you knew that he would match his player step for step.  Cope began the scoring with a drive through the crowd to find the back of the net.  Crowley had an interception and Cancelliere always seemed to come up with the ball in midfield to keep the game evenly matched. The defense held the wolf pack to only three goals in the first half.  The refs kept the crowds entertained with their very animated hand motions.
The scoring picked up for the Gaels in the second half on a beautiful play as Milde stripped the ball and passed it in to Kitchin who fed it to Slinger for the goal.  Cope had another unassisted goal followed by a beautiful forced shot by Kitchin to bring the game within reach.  After a questionable call by the ref where Crowley stripped the stick from a West Morris player the ball was given to the pack and they were able to score.  Doug Kitchin got his second assist on the day as he was able to connect with Slinger for the final score of the game.  It was a physical game and Roxbury was able to come up with most of the ground balls.  The field conditions were slippery and the weather was a bit cold with cloudy skies.

CLOSE GAME FOR JV
The JV played a tight game against West Morris on Monday but when the dust settled the final score was Roxbury 6 West Morris 7.  The goal tending duties were shared by Torlucci and Rufino in the first quarter, Murphy in the second and Rufino in the third and forth.  The first quarter was quiet as neither team was able to penetrate the net.  Kurt Shann scored twice for the Gaels in the second quarter with one of them from an assist by Cummings.  Jordan Richman also put a point on the board to complete the first half  with the score Rox. 3,
W. Morris 4.  Both teams scored twice in the third period as Shann connected with Cummings and Connor Smith fed Rozi for the Gaels.  The defenders kept the game close and Caltigerone and Smith put in a strong effort.  The final period proved to be an even match as both teams scored one goal but that put Roxbury down by one as the buzzer sounded.  Rufino had some great saves in the forth quarter to keep the game close.  The final scoring for Roxbury was on a Cummings feed to Inge.

ROXBURY BEATS LIVINGSTON

Both the varsity and the JV notched up another victory in their Friday game against Livingston.

The varsity won the match-up against Livingston  8 to 5 to bring their record to 3-4.
The scoring for Roxbury began with a drive from D'Agostino in the opening minutes to light up the board.  The next score came from the attack line as Slinger knocked the ball loose from the Lancers and was able to recover it and pass it in to Kitchin who fed D'Agostino for the second points of the day.  Crowley had some nice steals and he was able to convert one for his first goal of the season as he drove down the field with his long stick  and was able to place it in the net.  Livingston only answered with one goal in the first quarter and Shann had some great saves as the goalkeeper.  In the second quarter Milde was able to connect with Slinger for the goal and then Slinger was able to pass the ball in the crowd to Kitchin who was able to complete the play to put Roxbury up 5 to 1. The three C's of Crowley, Cancelliere and Canning were able to put a lot of pressure on the offensive line of Livingston to force many turnovers to benefit the Gaels.  Meehan scored on an unassisted goal to complete the scoring for the first half.  Torlucci saw some time in the goal in the second half and D'Agostino was able to find the net on the man-down whip around play.  The final scoring on the day came from Brian Cunneen as he received a pass from Meeth and was able to drive to the goal.
The game was completed with a yard sale play from Crowley.

THE JV OUT PLAY LIVINGSTON 15 TO 5

The Gaels outplayed the Lancers by 10 goals to walk away with a needed victory.  The goaltender position was shared by Rufino and Murphy and they both put in a strong performance.  Cummings started the scoring for Roxbury with an unassisted  wraparound shot that passed the goalie. Next Inge was able to connect with Cummings for his second point of the game.  Cummings then assisted with the next two scoring drives as he connected first with O'Donnell and then to Kurt Shann.  Meeth was able to connect with Rozi to give Roxbury it's fifth goal.  Cummings then pulled a double fake shot that found the net off of a feed from Shann and then Shann with a tip in by Blinn.  Cummings continued with his wraparound play to again find the net unassisted.  Inge had his second assist on the day with a feed to O'Donnell for the goal.  The middie line showed lots of strength as they outplayed Livingston and the attack line proved to be solid.  The defense, led by Caltagirone, Peterson, Eichvalds and Bartholomew contained the Lancers to only five goals.  Coach Blough was able to mix things up a bit by letting the players try different positions.  The most notable change was Peterson on offense where he was hungry to score a goal.  Cummings  had the game of his life as he was credited with another assist this time to Rozi and then he took a golf shot to find the back of the net.  That gave him a total of five goals and three assists on the day.  Inge was able to get another assist as he fed Oates for the score followed by Kyle Smith's feed to Shears.  The scoring was completed by Shann as he put two more in the net. The first was  an unassisted goal followed by a fake shot pass from O'Donnell to Shann who shot behind his back for the goal.  By the end of the game the parents were cold and wet (as Nick O'Donnell noted so were the players) but very proud of their boys.

ROXBURY  7     GLEN RIDGE  5

ROXBURY Defeats GLEN RIDGE

Roxbury improved their record on the varsity level by dominating the game against Glen Ridge on Tuesday.  Kyle Shann put in an outstanding performance in the goal by making 12 saves and the defense held Glen Ridge to 5 goals.  Kevin Kelly won most of the face offs with the assisted effort of Ollie and Cancelliere.  That set up Roxbury to control the ball for the majority of the game.  Defensively, Crowley was able to shut down Glen Ridge's leading attackman and Peter Grenot found himself in unfamiliar territory as he carried the ball to the offensive side of the field.  Simon filled in defensively for RJ Cannings who is sidelined with an injury and  he was able to intercept a Ridge pass to return the ball to Roxbury's offense.  The scoring began with a clear-out play to allow Sean Milde to drive to the net virtually untouched.  Next D'Agostino was able to score which would be his first of four goals.  Cope followed with a goal and that put the Gaels up 3 to 1.  Kelly put a lot of pressure on the Ridge middie line and forced a turnover along with Kitchin putting pressure on the clearing sequence to force the player out of bounds.  The pressure of the Gaels allowed them to spend most of the game on the offensive side of the field.  After a half time break Roxbury allowed two quick goals but they were not going to go down without a fight as they came back with four goals.  Slinger had the first with an assist from Tim Keown and D'Agostino scored a hat trick in the second half to finish the game.  One goal was on an assist from Skewes, the next came from a pass by the Glen Ridge team right into the pocket of Dag's stick to allow the goal and the third was from a fast break to get the unassisted goal.  Total shots on goal for Roxbury was 14 but there were many more scoring opportunities.  This puts the Gaels at 2 - 4 with their hardest games behind them.  They showed that they can work the ball around and force the turnovers.  Keep up the good work!

ROXBURY JV WINS BIG OVER GLEN RIDGE

The JV had an outstanding game against Glen Ridge on Tuesday after a long wait in the hot sun to come away with a 9 to 4 game.  The goalie position was shared by Murphy in the first half and Rufino in the second half and both put in a good effort.  The MVP on the day had to be Chuck Cummings with five goals and  an assist.  Nick O'Donnell helped maintain the control of the game by coming up with most of the face offs and then assisting with three goals and scoring one unassisted goal.  The scoring began with a shot into the net by Inge with the assist from Smith.  Next came the one-two combo of O'Donnell to Cummings for the next two goals.  Cummings came up with his hat trick on a feed from Kurt Shann and he followed that up with feeding Shann for the fifth goal for the Gaels.  Defensively Maccione had some strong hits and Peterson provided a strong defense.  The next three goals came from the unassisted efforts of Cummings, Smith and O'Donnell.  The last goal of the game came from the team of O'Donnell to Cummings to help Roxbury walk away with the win.  The word of the day was "hustle" as everyone put in a strong effort to contribute to the victory.

After a rough first half in which the Gaels gave up 9 goals, they were able to stage a comeback in the second half and outplay Kinnelon 3 to 1.  The final score was 10 to 3.

Jon Carrol opened the scoring in the second half with a man-up goal within minutes of starting the third quarter.  Jeremy Pascale continued the comeback with a great running left-handed shot that beat the goalie over the shoulder from 15 feet away.  Jon Carrol finished the scoring with a powerful skip shot.  Even though they did not come out victors, the coach believes that the second half let the Gaels know that they could play with a strong team like Kinnelon.  Justin Nicholson made 4 huge saves in the second half, including two point-blank saves to keep Roxbury in the game.  Defensively, Brenden Beal dominated the physical play, and led the team in transition with two long field rushes.  The second midfield unit of Greg Camasta, Zac Garipolli, and Mike Kulisz saw a lot of action, and other key defenders included Greg Spero and Dave Lucia.  The attack group provided plenty of offensive opportunities and drew several key fouls. (Mark Slinger, Ray Henrickson, Kyle Drobnis and Ryan Doll).

Pingry 8  Roxbury 2

PINGRY OUTSCORES ROXBURY

Despite an outstanding effort from Kyle Shann in goal, Pingry was able to outscore the Gaels 8 to 2.  Roxbury was credited with 16 shots on goal but only 2 were able to penetrate to light up the scoreboard.  Shann made 11 saves against a HUGE offensive line.  The attack line of Slinger, D'Agostino and Kitchin had the only points on the day for Roxbury.  Doug Kitchin fed Greg Slinger to prevent the shutout and Andrew D'Agostino finished the day with a drive from behind the goal to put it in the net.  Sean Milde, Mike Cancelliere and Mike Crowley each had a play where they striped the ball from the opponent and made a drive to the net.  Unfortunately Pingry's goalie was able to make the save.  Kitchin was able to force two turnovers by pressuring the goalie and Kevin Kelly won many of the face offs. The defense had their hands full with the size of the Pingry players and their goalie took up most of the net.

JV HAS A CLOSE GAME AGAINST PINGRY

Roxbury was able to keep the game close but in the end Pingry was able to put one more in the net.  The scoring for the Gaels was led by Mike Inge as he was able to light up the board twice.  One was from a feed by Kurt Shann.  Nick O'Donnell had a beautiful connection to Chuck Cummings for a goal and Rozi completed the scoring with an unassisted drive to the net.  Offensively Rozi, Shann, Inge, Cummings, O'Donnell, Oates and Smith were able to work the ball around well to keep Pingry on their toes.  Peterson, Bartholomew and Eichvalds contained Pingry on the defensive side of the field and helped keep the scoring to a minimum.  The goalie position was shared by Rufino, Torlucci and Murphy.

ROXBURY PUTS IN STRONG GAME AGAINST SETON HALL
The final score was 7 to 4 but Roxbury put in a strong performance against the state ranked Seton Hall Pirates.  The defensive effort was outstanding as Cancelliere put on his own form of pirating and had many steals with drives down the field.  Ollie was relentless with his quickness to make a pest of himself and both him and Simon created  yard sale situations on the field.  Crowley, RJ and Grenot  defended their goalie Shann with a vengeance especially after the Pirates had a quick scoring sequence right after half time.  Other than that short run the play was even as Roxbury held them to one goal each in the first two quarters and shutting them out in the fourth.  Kyle Shann put in an outstanding effort in the goal where he was credited with 11 saves and Kevin Kelly won many of the face offs.
The scoring for Roxbury was a complete Mt. Arlington effort as Doug Kitchin had two goals, Tim Keown scored with an assist from Austin Meehan and Kris Skewes recorded his first varsity goal.  The team is looking stronger and playing well together.

ROXBURY JV TAKE ON SETON HALL PREP
The JV had a strong game against Seton Hall but unfortunately they came up short 5 to 3.  Nick O'Donnell was the victor in the face off department and the defensive put in a strong effort. Brian Oates had a great game as he made his presence known to the pirates both on the field and in the net as he scored  an unassisted goal.  Mike Inge put the ball in the net with an assist from Chuck Cummings and Inge also was credited with the assist to Kurt Shann's goal.  Eichvald, Peterson and Smith had a strong showing with putting pressure on the opponents and Mike Esposito showed that he was a man with lots of quick moves.  The goalie position was shared by Rufino and Murphy and they were each credited with many good saves..  Other notable players in the game were Rozi, Shears, Vaccano, Gregory and Biank.
Cummings, Shann, O'Donnell and Inge showed that they have what it takes to move the ball around and keep the play on the offensive side of the field.

ROXBURY GETS SHUTOUT
Nationally ranked Summit came on strong and didn't let up as they overpowered the Gaels on Thursdays match up under sunny skies.  Matt Torlucci protected the goal and was kept very busy.  He had 9 spectacular saves that I recorded along with other blocked shots. The defensive line was kept busy and never gave up. After a hard week of games I am sure that the spring break will aid in their regrouping and help them gear up for Seton Hall on Tuesday.

JV GIVES SUMMIT A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY
Roxbury had a strong game against Summit as they entered the 4th quarter in the lead but they were unable to hold of the drive of Summit.  The final score was 7 to 8.  The scoring drive for Roxbury began with Mike Inge's feed to Cummings for the goal followed by an unassisted effort from Rozi.  The next two goals came from Kris Skewes as Kurt Shann and Nick O'Donnell were both  able to connect with him.  Nick Blinn found the net with a feed from Rozi and Chuck Cummings had his second goal of the day with an assist from Brian Cunneen.
Skewes completed his day with a hat trick as he completed the scoring with an unassisted goal.  A strong effort was put in by Peterson, Caltagirone and  Bartholomew defensively and Oates, Inge, Biank, Meeth and O'Donnell assisted the offensive effort.  The goal was shared by Ruffino and Murphy who both put in a gallant effort.

THE FRESHMAN FINALLY TAKE THE FIELD
With many delays and missed practices the freshman finally got to see how they will come together when they took to the field on Wednesday.  Coach Benbow is pleased with the turnout as he has a roster of 19 young men.  # 8 Justin Nicholson will be spending time protecting the net as goalie for the freshman team and he turned in a great performance on Wednesday.  Helping him guard the net is the size and strength of Brendan Beal and the quickness of Gregory Spero.  David Lucia, Danny Lobrace and Chris Totter will also be the protectors of the goal.  The middie line will be led by the speed to Michael Kulisz and the drive of Jon Carroll.  Carroll was the lone scorer in Wednesdays match-up as he put two in the back of the net.  Rounding out the middie line will be Byron Kutlosky, Greg Camasta, Jeremy Pascale and Tim Ryan.  Zac Garripoli was sharing his time as a middie and defender.
Ray Henricksen and Mark Slinger had some nice connections on the offensive side of the field but unfortunately the shot sailed wide or the goalie was able to make the save but the potential is there.  That effort will be aided by Kyle Drobnis, Bryan Palanch, Oscar Hernandez and Ryan Doll.  They did not take a win on Wednesday but there are a lot of new players on the field and a few that took last year off.  I am sure that with a bit more time they will be the team to beat.

Chatham 16 Roxbury 7

CHATHAM SHUTS DOWN ROXBURY
It was not what the Gaels wanted after a big win over Columbia but they couldn't match the strength of the Chatham players.  After waiting for almost an hour for Chatham to show the game got off to a late start and Roxbury came out a bit slow.  The was not to be the case in the second quarter as they rallied back from a 6 point deficient to come within one goal.  The scoring started with a lucky pin ball shot from Cope that hit off a few players before it found it's way into the net.  That was followed by a beautiful pass from Milde who connected with Dags for the score.  D'Agostino would walk away with four goals before the day was done to lead the scoring for Roxbury.  Meehan, Keown, and Slinger assisted his scoring drives.  Milde and Cope finished the scoring for the Gaels.  Shann put in a strong effort in goal with  18 saves but the size of the Chatham players even dwarfed Crowley as they powered in.  The defensive effort was led by Grenot, RJ and Crowley along with a strong performance by Perillo, Tennick, Cancelliere  and Maccione.  At one point in the game a Chatham player took a cheep shot on Simon Tennick at midfield.  The flag was thrown and as Simon got up it looked as if he was going toward the other player.  As only a crowd that knows their players can do the entire bleachers yelled "SIMON" at the top of their lungs.  He proceeded to jog peacefully off the field!  Good for you Simon. Roxbury played a hard game and never gave up.

JV KEEPS GAME CLOSE IN THEIR LOSS TO CHATHAM

The JV players had a long wait before it was their chance to take the field.  The goalie position was shared by Torlucci, Rufino and Murphy and a strong effort was put in defensively by Caltagirone, Bartholomew and Peterson.  The scoring was led by Conwell with a hat trick off of assists from O'Donnell and Blinn.  Blinn also gave the assist to Meeth for the final goal of the game.  The final score was Roxbury 4 and Chatham 5.

Roxbury 9   Columbia 2

ROXBURY DEFEATS COLUMBIA WITH STYLE!

The Gaels started their season with an impressive win over Columbia on Monday.  The skies were clear but the field conditions were quite muddy and slippery but that didn't stop the offense from coming away with 9 goals and the defense from allowing only two.
Slinger had a hat trick to lead the scoring for Roxbury.  One was a smooth grounder that came unassisted.  The second was off an assist from Kitchin and the third was a beautiful flip pass at midfield from Cancelliere.  Cope began the scoring early in the game on an unassisted goal followed by an unassisted sweep goal from Kitchin to put the Gaels up 2 to 0.  Columbia scored during a line change and from that point on Columbia rarely saw an open shot.  Roxbury had many shots on goal during the first half but they either hit the post or the goalie had some good saves.  That was not to be the case in the second half as the scoring opened up.  Roxbury did an outstanding job on faceoffs as Kevin Kelly was able to sweep it to the speed of Ollie or the strength of Cancelliere to win almost all of them.  Defensively Crowley, Canning and Grenot protected Kyle Shann and limited the shots on goal.  During a clearing by Columbia, Slinger pressured the goalie to come out of the net and Cancelliere was able to
"run over" the pass man forcing him to drop the ball.  He retrived it and drove to the net to score a long stick goal.  I do believe that the pass man is still hurting!  Sean Milde scored his first varsity goal and D'Agostino completed the scoring with two points.  His first was an unassisted drive and the second was on a feed from Kitchin.  Ollie Starnes used his speed to come up with many ground balls and Cancelliere used his strength to force many turnovers.  Kevin Kelly had some beautiful interceptions and Kyle Shann made some impressive saves.  It was a great way to start the season.  Keep up the good work!

ROXBURY JV WIN BIG OVER COLUMBIA!

The Gaels showed strength on the JV level as they overpowered Columbia 10 to 3.
The slippery footing didn't stop Roxbury from going to the net as 6 players came away with goals.  Rozembersky "Rozi" led the scoring with a hat trick with Cummings and Meeth contributing two goals each for the Gaels.  The rest of the scoring came from the individual efforts of many which certainly speaks to the depth of the team.  Skewes, ODonnell and Kurt Shann completed the scoring to give Roxbury it's first victory.  Oates connected with one of "Rozi"  goals and Skewes had many assists that set up the scoring opportunities.  Rufino and Murphy shared time in the goal and put in a great defensive effort with many saves.  Sean Peterson used his speed to force a nice interception and the defensive line held the Columbia players to only penetrate the net 3 times.  Way to start the season!
